Culture In Milan

Milan is a melting pot due to its historical connections with Spain, France and Austria. After the unification of Italy in 1861 Milan took a very important role in the new unified country. Milan,having been partly destroyed by bombardments during the Second World War, has rebuilt and transformed itself into the thriving metropolis it is today. The city’s character is largely defined by the cultured lifestyle of its inhabitants - art, opera, shopping, football and nightlife. However, it is one of Europe’s most ancient cities, with over 26 centuries of history, and it was the capital of the Western Roman Empire in 286 AD. Milan is famous for numerous historical sights, which are definitely to be explored when you rent an apartment in the city. The Duomo is one of the largest and most impressive Gothic cathedrals in the world, while La Scala is one of the world’s most famous opera houses, with many renowned musicians and classical artists having performed there over the last two centuries. The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, Milan’s historic and elegant shopping gallery is a breathtaking neoclassical vision, while the Pinacoteca di Brera art gallery boasts an impressive collection of some of Europe’s most precious paintings.  You can also visit the Castello Sforzesco during your holiday, a medieval castle and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as well as the Santa Maria alle Grazie Basilica, which lays claim to Leonardo da Vinci's The Last Supper,  a must on any historical tour of Milan.
